 Nurin

Nurin, one-on-one performance, audio, silver hand washing pots, gold tray, rice, water, hand cloth, mat, frame with photo, chocker with name, burnt matchsticks, headphones, MP3 player, 4:41 mins

Nurin is a performance piece supported by an audio titled ‘Nurin where a single member of the audience is invited to listen to the audio on headphones as the performer treats them physically through washing, drying and holding their hands using rice and water. The act of touch establishes and forces intimacy and care that contradicts the content of the audio. The text/audio was created and refined from the notes collected combining the story of two Nurins, creating dual identity that gives the name its own form of physical and emotional identity. It’s an individual experience forcing the participant to confront Nurin Yusof, the performer, as a figure named ‘Nurin’ in relation to the ‘Nurin‘ that exists in the audio. Colours and food were repeated to connect and enhance the story, but also divert the attention of the reader from the gist of the story, almost creating a ‘wholesome’ approach to a rape and murder case.
