Tate Exchange x CSM: Trade Ship, Interactive performance, cardboard, cloth, silver hand washing pots, rice, wooden stools, text printed on white paper (materials used by other performers are not included), traditional wear (batik skirt, kebaya top)

Trade Ship is a collaborative and interactive performance done by three international students, Nan Zhu, Dain Jeong and Nurin Yusof, in the United Kingdom, the country they are currently inhabiting. The performance involved story telling in our individual native languages, Mandarin, Korean and Bahasa Melayu respectively with additional conversations and games played, depending on the performer.

Nurin Yusof shared the folklore of ‘Mahsuri’, exploring of ideas of purity of oneself, believes and language which lead on to the participants hands being washed using rice, an ‘object‘ referenced in the story.
